| Now largely overlooked, Franz von Suppé was one of the most prominent composers in imperial Vienna in the second half of the nineteenth century, and one of the fathers of Viennese operetta. Only his overtures have often retained great notoriety, independently of the operetta to which they prelude, such as The Beautiful Galatea, Light Cavalry or Poet and Peasant. At the helm of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Sir Adrian Boult restores all their charm and inventiveness.
